when Richard Nixon resigned as U.S. 37th president had something like that never happened. after having collapsed days after the decision that the new president, Gerald Ford, that Nixon would be given amnesty for their crimes possible. the American people became outraged. while, in Australia, had the popular talk show host David Frost had an idea - he would interview Nixon and perhaps in the process of getting him to admit his mistakes.
Frank Langella might not be the spitting image of thousands of Richard Nixon, but his play is incredible. He paints a picture of a man who does not think he made some errors, even if not many would agree with him. he wants to explain himself, to be tried on its merits and not their mistakes and Langella plays the role brilliantly. Michael Sheen is well okay as David Frost, but the thing is that this is lang ellas movie straight through and sheen may be content with playing second fiddle. Actor cast is good, even if they do not have much to do. I was very glad to see kevin bacon back in the film's parlor. an underrated actor who deserves to have roles in good films.
first and foremost - I do not like Ron Howard as director. it seems that he has some kind of inferiority complex which causes him to constantly prove that he can play with the big boys in the house. is not it better that he inexplicably won an Oscar for the incredibly overrated A Beautiful Mind . I must admit that Frost / Nixon on the whole is a fine craft, with minor annoyances. why not pseudo-documentary, he builds up to a start in full? why spend so much time to build up David Frost in context rather uninteresting character? well, an approved craft, it is in all cases.
what this movie lives on the first script, based on the play of the same name. while one could have argued that the script had not been able to be this strong, but the real events it is based. interviews between Frost and Nixon are masterfully orchestrated and to see two people sitting in the opposite chair and talk to each other has rarely been so exciting. however, is mixed with ramhistorien lang ellas scenes skyrocket much more interesting than Sheena. On the whole, a fragmented script.
those who know me know I love history. this film gave me not much new that I did not already know, but to see the story dramatized was very interesting and fun. while it feels like something is missing. the movie is a little light and the script would have to be revised. the only thing in the movie is an instant success is lang ellas role as Nixon, but to summarize the film is the weakest I've seen so far which is nominated for the film world's most prestigious prize this year.
